About Vincent (Vince) becoming the NIGHT KNIGHT

VINCENT (VINCE)

Vincent (Vince) is a persona doll representing the At Risk type of gifted student on Neihart and Betts Revised Profiles of the Gifted and Talented.

Vincent’s story

Vincent is in the At Risk group because he often plays truant.
He has become friends with a gang of thrill seeking graffiti artists. There is a real danger that associating with this group could lead to taking alcohol or other drugs.
Some teachers actually feel relieved when they see that Vince is absent as he can be very disruptive in class and they can be afraid of him.
Many of the other students are afraid of Vince too but he does have a few friends and he is fiercely loyal to them
Vince always seems to be angry. But it is also clear that Vince is suffering from depression because beneath the bluster Vince is very sensitive.
What Vincent does not tell anyone is that he loves to read Shakespeare’s Sonnets and that when he is absent from school he often pursues his own interests in libraries, museums and art galleries.
Much of what the class at school is learning seems banal, basic and puerile to him and he is not motivated by the rewards offered by the teachers. Because he is so often absent and hardly ever completes any assignments his academic achievement is very low. But it is important not to lower expectations and to arrange testing to gauge the actual levels of Vince’s abilities. He needs an individualized learning plan.
There may be problems in Vince’s family home life which could be helped with counselling. His family should endeavour to keep communications open and communicate confidence in him and a desire to work together to overcome obstacles.
Vincent needs an alternate environment with safety and structure. He needs professional counselling, direction for short term goals and help to develop long term goals and career path. He needs a strong mentor/advocate to challenge and encourage him and hold him accountable for his actions.

I have used the stories of my Persona Dolls during Teacher Training Workshops and Mentor training sessions.
The Persona Doll Vincent (Vince) is an example of the At Risk gifted student. He has joined a thrill seeking graffiti group

SO Acting as a Starry, Starry Night Knight is a new and unusual role for Vince.

Happy endings all around!

The Night Knight is designed to give the feelings of safety and protection by standing by the nightstand holding a night light.
The nightstand can hold a nightlight, books for night reading and bedtime stories, sleep inducing aroma therapy items, and a music player with collections of night themed music and lullabies or soothing nature sounds.
Possum likes to join in the night-time activities too.
For Vincent it is a new role with new challenges and responsibilities!

Some photos and quotes about NIGHT

Here are some of the photos and quotes I have collected for my project which would be useful for my journal or if I opt to compile a book of Night Quotes.

Theme NIGHT – mindmap

This year Personas, profiles and portraits will be sharing blog space with my information gathering and journal for my University of Tasmania subject Creativity for Life in Semester 1, 2022.

Creative Project 1.  The creative work (in any medium of your choice) must respond to one of the given themes and use an item in an unconventional or unexpected way in the making process or final creation.

I chose the theme of NIGHT

Creativity For Life

This year Personas, profiles and portraits will be sharing blog space with my journal for my University of Tasmania subject Creativity for Life in Semester 1, 2022.

I figure that the Persona Dolls were examples of creativity themselves and may even be able to be incorporated into the course, depending on the activities and themes we will be using.

I told the Persona characters that they were happy to do this!

Another Country Kid

Recently I joined an Art Group at U3A and I showed the ladies some of the pictures and collages of the Persona Dolls I had created. One lady, Margaret, said that she had a persona doll which her mother had made which I could have. The following week I found Margy sitting on my chair when I arrived.

I took Margy home and pondered what her story could be. I decided that she must be one of the country kids.

So here is MARGY’S STORY

Margy is another of the Country Kids.
She was chosen to represent her district for the
Youth Planning for the Future conference but was not able to attend.

Margy also misses school quite often but she never seems to fall behind the class. The teachers recognise that she is intelligent, capable and practical and responsible beyond her years.

She is the eldest child in her family and has three sisters and two brothers. As her mother often does not keep good health, Margy often has to take care of her siblings as well as helping with the cooking and some of the jobs around the farm.
One of her main tasks is to feed the geese as she is the only one who is not chased and intimidated by them. Maybe that is because Margy genuinely likes the geese.

The best way to help Margy to reach her potential would be to find someone, like a house keeper, who could share some of the work.

Facebook 52 Illustrations Challenge July

This year I am trying to incorporate my Persona Dolls into the weekly theme if possible and post the resulting pictures here once a month. I am using a variety of art media and endeavouring to do one picture each week which includes my Persona Dolls
Here are my July pictures
