Miranda’s story

If you ask the teacher to name the gifted students in their class the first one that comes to their mind is Miranda.

Miranda is a high achiever and teacher pleaser. Her work is always beautifully presented and she will put in the effort required to gain the best possible marks as she is extrinsically motivated and eager for approval. Academic studies have been very easy for Miranda up until now. She is accustomed to being able to get good marks easily.

In fact Miranda is a perfectionist and is very self critical. She is reluctant to go beyond the set syllabus and avoids taking risks. She often becomes anxious.

Miranda needs to be challenged to take risks and move out of her comfort zone. She needs to be taught independent learning skills and to develop resilience. She could also benefit from being encouraged to show more creativity, originality and independence.
She needs subject or grade acceleration and time with true intellectual peers. Time with mentors would also be very valuable. And she needs information and support in relation to the social/emotional aspects of giftedness.

Miranda needs to be challenged with activities that might require her to take risks.
She needs some extra curricular type activities rather than the regular curriculum all the time to extend her beyond the regular requirements

Miranda needs to be challenged with activities that might require her to take risks.
She needs some extra-curricular type activities rather than the regular curriculum all the time to extend her beyond the regular requirements.
She needs to be shown that failure is part of life and that a failure is not the end of the world
She needs to see others fail and then see them soldier on.

She needs some extra curricular type activities rather than the regular curriculum all the time to extend her beyond the regular requirements.
